We are a student-run project team of creative and motivated problem solvers from all walks of life who share a common passion for aircrafts. Each year, we are challenged to design, build, and fly an unmanned, radio-controlled aircraft from the ground up for a unique mission profile.
Through the process of desgining, analyzing, manufacturing, and optimizing RC planes, our members gain valuable aerospace engineering knowledge and experience. We share a strong desire to learn aerospace design techniques and strive to implement new, innovative ideas. Most importantly, we are all on a journey together to create life-long memories and joy for each member.
The Aerodynamics and Controls subteam designs and manufactures the aerodynamic lifting and control surfaces of our aircrafts. The subteam conceptualizes the proper design and layout of the plane’s flight surfaces based on specifications produced by the Mechanical and Propulsion subteams. Using hand calculations, CAD and CFD software, and manufacturing methods, the Aerodynamics and Controls subteam transforms these design ideas into reality.

The Propulsion subteam determines and assembles the appropriate propulsion and electrical systems to optimize the aircraft’s performance in flight missions. The subteam makes critical design decisions about the weight and size of the aircraft and its propulsion components. Working with the Aerodynamics and Mechanical subteams, the Propulsion subteam fits and integrates propulsion and other electronic components with the aircraft.

The Mechanical and Structures subteam has a vast range of responsibilities to combine all the different aspects of an aircraft into a single unit. The subteam applies aerodynamic principles, fracture mechanics, and orthotropic material models to fabricate the fuselage and implement mechanisms specific to the mission profile of each competition. Throughout their time in the Mechanical and Structures subteam, members acquire a wide array of skills with opportunities to embark on specialized projects in their area of interest.

The Business subteam works with team leadership to manage team logistics and operations beyond designing and assembling aircrafts. The subteam conducts outreach to maintain the team’s on- and off-campus presence and manages team finances. Members of the Business subteam employ a range of technical and interpersonal skills to ensure that the team is well supported by taking on roles in team finances, fundraisers, content design, and online presence.
